The Suzuki Gixxer SF, since its introduction back in 2015, hadn’t received any sizable updates. The Gixxer SF is the only 155cc motorcycle in the market that comes with a full-fairing. This time around, Suzuki has launched a new updated Gixxer SF next to the Gixxer SF 250. After spending some laps with the Gixxer SF 250, we jumped onto the new Gixxer to compel you an extensive Suzuki Gixxer SF review.
It’s true that the Gixxer SF follows the design and styling language identical to the Gixxer 250. There is an edgy arrow-like LED headlamp up front that gives it a distinctive look, the curvy fuel tank looks muscular, there are svelte lines all over the body and the floating taillight looks distinctive and snazzy. The design of the Gixxer SF is more or less identical to the Gixxer 250, however, there are a few differences we noticed while filming the Gixxer SF review like the decals on the fairing and the gloss black finish that can tell the two bikes apart. But if you take into consideration the ongoing Gixxer SF, there are a lot of substantial updates and differences. That being said, the newer Gixxer reaps a full LED headlamp, newly designed LED tail lamp, full digital instrumentation, clip-on handlebar and split seats in its stride.

At the heart of the matter, the Gixxer SF is powered by the same 155cc motor as before. The 154.9cc mill makes marginally less power at 13.9bhp while the torque output remains identical at 14Nm. Suzuki claims the engine has been prepared for BS-VI norms – hence, the drop in power. The lack in power, however isn’t noticeable and the engine is still as crispy as it used to be on the older Gixxer SF.
Straight from get-go, the engine feels peppy and crisp at lower revs. In our time shooting the Suzuki Gixxer SF review, we noticed how the updated model retained the strong low-end and mid-range of the previous model – which makes it fun to ride out on the streets. However, at the BIC – we felt the need for more power while exiting corners, and it all fairness, this could be the vastness of the track. Out on the sophisticated public roads, the Gixxer SF should feel adequately powered. Gear shifts on the 5-speed transmission are clunky and there is a raw click to the otherwise precise transmission.
Is it as fun as before?
With some added weight over the previous model, the Gixxer SF is comparatively much more confident and agile through the corners and twists. The engineers at Suzuki have managed to pass down a revised version of the older chassis. As a result, the handling is tout and the way the motorcycle takes on corners is simply mindboggling. The bike also continues to use the same suspension setup, 41mm telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear.
With the revised design and fairing, the Gixxer SF now offers a marginally better riding position. It might not be as aggressive, as say the Yamaha YZF-R15, but it is just enough to put a stupid grin on your face on weekend getaways. However, in comparison to the segment-leading R15, the Gixxer felt more comfortable for daily commuting needs. Overall, the Gixxer SF feels very intuitive and tackles into any corner with confidence. The only thing we didn’t like were the soggy brakes, the 266mm front disc is dull and you need to push the level all the way back to grasp a bit of that stopping power.
So to answer the question, yes the updated Gixxer SF is actually more agile than the older one and it takes on corners even faster, albeit it might not return from one fast enough. Jokes aside, the little updates that Suzuki has made to their magical machine have actually resulted in an impressive overall package. But, it does demand over Rs.11,000 over its predecessor. And at Rs.1.09 lakh (ex-showroom), the value for money quotient is not entirely justified. However, for those who need an engaging motorcycle that puts a grin on your face every time you tackle a corner, I say go for this one.
